Let's build a deck 2

Hi how are you all did you enjoy a glorious weekend?
We've been enjoying some lovely Autumnal walks.
Anyway............
..........as promised here's the story of the deck.
Remember how we hated decking,
I was holding out for slate flagstones actually.
But as a temporary solution decking would do so we began.

The first job was levelling using concrete and bricks.

Now we didn't want to spend too much money on this project so decided to use roof joists, which we got for a very good price.
Bring in the de-nailing team.

Oliver came up with the idea to take away the roof supports!!!!!
I know it'll fall down......
.luckily Lovely Man knew a cunning way of supporting the roof on two bespoke brackets.

I think Oliver was having second thoughts at this point.

As you can see they make a crack team. Look at the awesome strength!

It's okay the roof stays up!
And even better we'll have even more space.

Next came the joist laying and protecting.
It proved to be a rather smelly job, wood preserver yuk.

We decided to add a decorative wooden canopy

Then came a very exciting moment, laying the deck,
we've used the plain side, just because we prefer it.

The whole family got involved, including Getto, he's good at measuring!
Two days of hard work by everyone.

We got some muscle to break up the old concrete path, after it had taken me about half an hour to break up a couple of inches and I'm freakishly strong!

Look at that I've wanted to get rid of that path FOREVER!
So happy the flower bed can be wider now.

A bit of soil and turf.

Ta Dah!

All done.

And that's it, one deck, a family of very happy people
some seriously chilled out cats and a summer of outside living.
Really this one project has transformed our lives, we all spend even more time outside, we're more relaxed
more connected and altogether happier.
Improving your home is always life enhancing,
but THIS project has had an amazing effect on our family.
I would say if you're dithering about doing something around your home, you know leaving it till the perfect solution comes along or you can afford it.
Don't, think outside the box, buy secondhand, do it together, do it in stages, do something, anything even something small can have a transforming effect.
Really what I'm saying is love your home.
We love our home.
I'll show you some deck life next time,
be prepared, there are some photos of gratuitous relaxing!
See you soon
Love
♥Sue♥

    1. It was Jacquie, everyone helped made it much more enjoyable to do. I reckon in the olden days we would have been barn raisers LOL! It's just lovely that our adult 'kids' are around to spend happy times with. x
